The Show Season is in Full Swing and Everything Here is Building up to WEG

The show season is in full swing and everything here is building up to WEG! With this amazing equestrian event so close to Haras Du Ry and Amy hotly contesting to represent Australia in the show jumping, things couldn’t be more exciting!

Our HDR team had great shows at the CSI’s at Le Touquet and Hardelot although I did manage to have a rather eventful Friday the 13th at Hardelot!  While helping Amy in the practise arena I managed to drop a pole on my hand.  Fortunately a trip to the local emergency department confirmed no breaks just bad bruising. With the help of some painkillers I managed a clear round the next day and qualified for the GP.  Maybe on future ‘black cat days’ I might need to be more careful!  The show ended well and we even managed a good gallop on the beach before we loaded the horses for home.

At the hospital – no broken hand!

Ready to go for a gallop on the beach after what thankfully ended as a successful show at CSI Hardelot

Amy and Bella have just had a very successful weekend at Mons in Belguim at the CSI4*.  Despite one unlucky rail in the 1.60m they are looking very good for a place in the Australian WEG team and will hopefully join Edwina Tops-Alexander, who earned early nomination to the team.

So the next stop for Amy is the CSI3* Spangenberg (Germany) for the second nomination event. It’s a very exciting time here at HDR and with Amy’s under the guidance of her new coach, Kate Monahan, we are all very hopefully of a start at WEG. The battle for the two team positions available through automatic nomination is between London Olympian James Paterson-Robinson (Boris), London team reserve Amy Graham (Bella Baloubet) and 2013 Australian Show Jumping Champion Jamie Kermond (Quite Cassini).

Needless to say I have been kept very busy ‘ holding the fort’ back at HDR base where we have many horses to be kept in training and guests coming and going at the accommodation here. If you are still looking for quality accommodation for WEG there are still a couple of places available here. While only a short distance to Caen Haras Du Ry is an idea base; the gites are beautifully furnished plus you can be part of all the horse action if you want!

Apart from WEG we have the CSI**** Dinard coming up soon and another opportunity for me to take my gorgeous Gordon out to compete.  We are really getting to know each other well and with all my hours in the saddle my fitness and strength is improving!  On top of all this I am making a flying visit back to Oz for my brother’s wedding in early August.  Life couldn’t be busier but I am totally loving life at Haras Du Ry!

STOP PRESS!!!

Since putting this blog together Amy has secured her place on the Australian team for WEG- needless to say the whole HDR team are pumped and so excited for Amy and Bella! We’ve just returned from a wonderful 4 days at Dinard 4*where I competed and placed well on Gordon.  In the next few weeks Amy will travel to the CSI 5* at Gijon in Spain with Bella, Blesse and Cupido.  I am heading back to Australia to be with my family for my brother’s wedding but will be back in Normandy well before WEG- can’t wait!

Also we have just launched our new website for Haras Du Ry go and have a look at www.harasdury.eu and check out our video at
