Deauville International CSI1*

Team Haras du Ry’s competition calendar in March took us to the gorgeous seaside town of Deauville in the heart of Normandy. As well as being one the premiere French seaside tourist destination Deauville is internationally known for its horse culture. In Deauville, the horse is king.  The town is tightly bound to horses and equestrian events and activities, such as racing, jumping, horse auctions, polo, international meetings, traditional carriages and unforgettable rides on the beach. Our showjumping event was held at the Cheval Internationale complex, a world class equestrian complex.

Aside from the excitement of heading off to another super show there are always the delights of seeing more of the beautiful French scenery from the cab of the horse truck.  The weather is starting to warm up and the trees and flowers are waking up after winter adding to the beauty of Normandy’s countryside.

With 4 horses on the truck it was set to be a full on weekend for Team Haras Du Ry.  My mount, Gordon and I had been progressing well in training and I was excited to test our skills in competition.  Amy had 2 horses on the truck for the weekend: Bacardi and Brazil plus Thomas’s ride, the grey mare, Una.

For me this was the show where I actually clicked with Gordon and all our hard work back home began to pay off- I felt more in control and Gordon was waiting and listening more. My riding at Haras Du Ry has been an enormous learning curve: the opportunity to ride more horses under the watchful eye of Amy is really helping.

Doing the miles in the saddle is making a huge difference to my riding and I’m loving every moment of it!  Despite not being in the placings at this show I was happy with our performance and glad to be getting some well needed competition experience under my belt.

I am enjoying being part of Team Haras Du Ry so much- all the wonderful support, encouragement and team spirit makes these trips such a buzz!  I can’t wait til the next show at Auvers.
